FPCG’s “Best Kept Secret”
After the hustle and bustle of worship and coffee hour on Sunday mornings, most people head home. But did you know that at 11:30am some pretty amazing gatherings take place?
In the Jennings Room, a diverse group led by Rev. Kevin gathers for an Adult Bible Study. This is a unique opportunity to connect with people in a deep and meaningful way. Last Sunday we focused on the scripture from worship and really deepened our understanding of what God’s love means and how it impacts our everyday lives. Childcare is provided!
Downstairs in the Youth Lounge, youth in 5-12th grade gather with Christian Heyer-Rivera for a Junior and Senior High Bible Study. We focus on God’s Word and how it relates to our lives as Christians, study tenants of our Presbyterian faith, and wrestle with issues that weigh heavy on our youth.
We encourage you to make space in your Sunday for bible study. You won’t be disappointed!

Meet at FPCG this Tuesday (5/1) at 3:00pm
Unfortunately, each day’s news brings another account of how gun violence continues to plague our city. Thankfully, FPCG is actively engaged in Neighborhood Partners to End Gun Violence (NPEG), an interfaith organization of congregations in northwest Philadelphia.
For months, NPEG has sponsored a prayer vigil in front of Delia’s Gun Shop on Torresdale Ave. in the hope that the owner of the shop would adopt a “Code of Conduct” reducing the practice of “straw purchases” (i.e. when someone who can legally purchase a gun resells it to those who cannot legally purchase firearms).
You can join Rev. Porter and others in the next vigil on Tuesday, May 1 meeting at FPCG at 3:00 PM and returning by 5:00 PM.
Contact Rev. Porter or visit http://heedinggodscall.org for more info.

Learn about FPCG’s Finances
The quarterly seminar on our church’s finances will be held next Sunday April 29 at 11:30am in the Finney Room. This will be the eighth in a continuing series prompted by requests from the 2009 Church Study. One of the study’s seven recommendations was that a great need exists for more information and knowledge about finances.
One of our goals has been to present church financial information in a manner that is both informative and understandable. Some of these techniques will continue to be used in this upcoming seminar. The intent is both to provide data (to inform) and also to show methods to analyze this data (to better understand). This should help to make us more aware of the financial aspects of our church.

Help transport people to church
Each Sunday several members and friends of First Church are transported to and from church via the church van.
At this time we need two drivers, one to drive the first Sunday of month and one for the occasional fifth Sunday. A regular driver’s license is all that is needed. Christian Heyer- Rivera provides the training needed to drive the van.
If interested please contact Rosy Walkenhorst at 267-808-2865.

Giving Thanks for Your Generosity
Our stewardship campaign, Seasons of Generosity, for ministry and mission support in 2012 has reached its goal!
Your generosity and support resulted in commitments for 2012 that meet the $420,000 goal! These results continue a sustained growth trend in congregational giving over the past years.
Why is this news and important? The support of our ministry and mission is underwritten by three types of income: giving and miscellaneous income, income from our endowments within the spending plan, and investment gains from our endowments above the spending plan.
