Volunteers from several organizations did clean up work in the bucolic and long troubled Vernon Park on Wednesday. The park has been cleaned before, but some see the recent efforts as something significantly different.
“We’re a coalition of different groups,” said Sue Finch as she worked mulch around some plants. “The Friends of Vernon Park and the rest are people called stakeholders, people in lots of different organizations.”

Plans are underway to develop a three-on-three summer league as well as a five-on-five scrimmages with local teams. Wendy played basketball in college and is looking forward to sharing her experience and love of the game.
Recap of the Winter/Spring Season: The under-18 boys basket-ball team had a unique winter-spring season. The team struggled with consistency through-out the regular season. We need YOU at McMichael Park Flea Market this Saturday, June 19
Come volunteer at the FPCG table this Saturday where we will hand out flyers and information about First Pres.
We need more folks to hand out those wonderful green balloons with our logo on them. We need even more folks to just “hang out,” showing the diversity of our congregation. Under a shaded canopy or walking among the crowds, you can answer questions about First Presbyterian and our outreach and mission.
If you can help, please come to the park and find us. We are on McMichael Street and our location has been designated as “COM3." For more information or to volunteer, please contact Faith Wolford or Sam Whyte.

On Sunday, June 5th, a group of young families from FPCG came together to clean up the playground area at Vernon Park. Both kids and adults join in to give the playground some much needed attention. A pot-luck picnic followed. Click here to see more photos.
