The McLean family name has played a strong role in the continued mission of our church.
Sarah Mclean, whose likeness is part of the mural on the North side of the Germantown YWCA building, is from that family.
Sarah McLean established a trust in 1919 that provided support for the Germantown YWCA as long as it continued to be member of the national YWCA. In the event that the Germantown YWCA ceased to be a member of the national YWCA, the trust would pay the income to the Trustees of our church for such purposes as the Trustees may determine.
In 1999 the national YWCA advised the Germantown YWCA that it had been formally disaffiliated from the National YWCA. The Germantown YWCA eventually filed for bankruptcy in 2004. Since 2000 the trustee has withheld further payments to the YWCA until the situation was resolved.

The Deacons are conducting a survey of First Church members to determine who might need transportation in order to attend Sunday morning worship.
We will develop a schedule to bring as many people to church as often as possible in our minibus.
If you are not able to attend worship due to transportation concerns, please contact your deacon.
If you would be willing to drive the minibus (not more than once a month) please contact Drivers do not need a commercial license but will require training from Christian Heyer-Rivera.

We thank God for a wonderful turn out for our Sunday School Kick-off Party after worship on September 20th.
There were more than fifty people in attendance, many of whom were young people with their families as well as teachers and other members who were just interested in what we are planning this year.
Those in attendance had the opportunity to learn more about what we offer young people through Sunday School, who is teaching our children, and what curriculum we are using.
With our largest volunteer staff of teachers in at least five years, this year should prove to be a year for deeper connections between our teachers and students, as well as more hands and energy devoted to nurturing the faith of our young people through this ministry!
Many thanks to Stephanie Haynes for all her hard work and her outstanding leadership in our teacher training on September 19th. Special thanks to Deborah Thompson for getting the breakfast organized.
Please pray that our students and teachers as they study the Scriptures that their faith, hope and love for Jesus Christ and others may grow together!
