We’ve Missed You!
This Sunday, September 12th First Church will welcome our Pastor, Dr. Nancy Muth, back to First Church following her three month Sabbatical.
Following worship on that date all members of the congregation are invited to a special barbecue luncheon to express our thanksgiving for Nancy’s safe return and to have an opportunity to hear of her experiences and to view some of the pictures she took.
Plan to be in church on the 12th and to stay for an enjoyable meal and program.
Here is a sneak peak at some of the photos Nancy took during her time away:

The next quarterly seminar on our church’s finances will be held on September 19th at 11:30 AM in the Finney room. This will be the third in a continuing series that was prompted by requests from the 2009 Church Study. One of the seven recommendations was that a great need exists for more information and knowledge about finances.
The first two seminars provided a foundation for understanding how our resources are managed as well as where they come from and where they are expended. Each seminar has a brief review of the prior information before the newer topics are presented.
The upcoming seminar will build on the information already presented about the endowment – specifically the three funds that comprise the endowments, the purpose for each, and the use of each and some projections for the future. Additionally we will discuss the 2010 financial performance to date and what may be the outlook for 2011.
The seminar is planned to last about 45 minutes – this small investment of your time may result in a virtual wealth of information about this vital aspect of mission support. Bring your coffee and snacks to the meeting and encourage a fellow member to come with you on September 19th. Remember that we will briefly review the earlier information so prior attendance is not a requirement!
Please contact Jim Thompson if you have any questions about this meeting.

Volunteers from Target, in partnership with a representative from the Philadelphia Streets department, led Freedom School Scholars and their parents in a recycling workshop.
While the younger participants enjoyed making recycled crafts, the adults learned about Philadelphia’s new recycling codes that allows for the recycling of all plastics (#1-#7)!!
People were also given the opportunity to register for Philadelphia’s new program “Recycling Pays”, where residents can earn monetary rewards for recycling! To learn more about the program, visit: www.phillyrecyclingpays.com
