Come and reflect the diversity of FPCG
From time to time, at least four times a year, the plea goes out for volunteers to assist at events throughout the community, events at which the church has a booth or table. The four venues include: Mt. Airy Day in May, the East Falls Flea Market in June, the People’s Festival in August and the Battle of Germantown in October.
At those events, all drawing different populations, First Church has very much been a presence for several years. Under the banner of The First Presbyterian Church in Germantown, “committed to a peaceful Germantown,” and surrounded by standup signs and pictures, our volunteers greet passersby, distribute brochures about the church, and answer questions.
But the most popular aspect of our participation is the distribution of balloons to children. After a couple of hours into each event, the green balloons imprinted with the church’s logo can be seen hovering all over. One day last year over 800 balloons were handed out!

The Reverend Carmen Goetschius will be the guest preacher at worship this Sunday, July 11th.
She currently serves the Arch Street Presbyterian Church in Center City as the Minister of Evangelism and Discipleship. This historic congregation is attempting to unearth a new and faithful identity as it responds to the changing demographics and needs of the city.
Ms. Goetschius hails from the Pacific Northwest, received her M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary in 2007, and most recently served at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City as their first Global Ministry Fellow before coming to Philadelphia. After seminary, she taught in Zambia for one year and has traveled extensively throughout the Global South.
She is delighted to join The First Presbyterian Church of Germantown for worship!

Want to find out what is happening around church? Check out the bulletin boards!
The Communications Committee has been working to make certain the various bulletin boards around the church are maintained and up to date.
Please make it a practice to view the boards where you will find much current information about the church, minutes of committees, news of members, on-going events, photos, and more.
Thank you to Dick Liberty, who has been responsible for injecting new life into these boards. He also prepared the member photo wreath on the bulletin board between the Finney and Jennings rooms - check it out if you haven’t seen it already. If you have any suggestions for improvements or inclusions for the bulletin boards please talk to Dick Liberty.

Next Saturday, June 12, the church will be represented at the annual East Falls Flea Market Day to be held at McMichael Park (Midvale and Henry Avenues) in East Falls.
We will host a table at which we will provide information to the community about First Church as well as distribute to children our now-famous balloons with the church logo on them!
Can you spend an hour during the day with your fellow members in staffing the table? (Then you can go flea-marketing yourself). Please see Ted Walkenhorst or Sam Whyte to volunteer an hour between 9:00am and 3:00pm.
