GACM Updates & Volunteer Opportunities
Serving Our Community
Spring is a busy time for our friends at the Germantown Avenue Crisis Ministry.
Take a look at these opportunities to get involved and support this valuable community outreach:
Volunteer Needs:
We are recruiting volunteers willing to be trained as energy counselors. Energy Counselors work directly with clients to assist them in resolving utility and conservation issues. For more information contact Sherry Archer or Eileen Jones.
Food Donation suggestions:
Fill a bag of groceries and include small size (1 or 2 lbs packages) of rice, flour and sugar.
Cents Ability:
In addition to your bag of groceries, bring your Cents-Ability cup filled with coins. Food fact: About 2.5% of the federal budget is spent on food assistance. This is a modest amount to provide a basic need for our brothers and sister throughout the country.
New Hours:
GACM is experimenting with a change in office hours throughout the month of May. Prompted by an overwhelming numbers of clients needing service, our office hours will change to Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 9am – 2pm. The food cupboard will be open Thursday 10am to 4pm.
Thank you for supporting the Walk+Run Against Hunger!
Twenty-eight walkers represented GACM with twelve from First Church. GACM raised approximately 83% of our $6,000 goal. The final tally will be known in June when the Coalition Against Hunger presents checks to each of the recipient food cupboards.
Kudos to all the walkers, runners and donors, Veda Gibbs for the highest amount of money turned in and Runners Dieter & Heidi Littles for a second place finish in their respective age groups.
