Recap of the Winter/Spring Season: The under-18 boys basket-ball team had a unique winter-spring season. The team struggled with consistency through-out the regular season. Losses came more readily than wins during regular league play, but toward the end of the season the team made a dramatic turn around. The team developed a spirit of unity that gave them momentum coming into the playoffs.
In their first playoff game their adherence to their coaches’ game plan led them to a solid victory. Their advancement meant that they would face the strongest team in the league in a semi-final match, and again the team lived up to their name, for they were indeed disciplined. Their efforts led them to a narrow victory and the team appeared to be ready to take the championship.
In the championship game the first half of the game was incredibly tight with the Disciples trailing at half time by just four points. The beginning of the second half be-longed to the Disciples and with just two minutes left in the game, the team led by as much as six points. Then, in the last minute of the game, the wheels fell off the championship wagon as the team missed layups and jumpshots leading to a four point defeat as the final buzzer sounded. While the last minute of the game was a deviation from their play, the team made an excellent run after a hard regular season, and for that they can be proud.
Coaches Chris Scott and Melvin Brown did an excellent job of bringing the team together as the season closed, and the values of cooperation, discipline and persistence were learned as the season progressed.
Great job team, and great job coaches!
