It’s official. Our church has been designated as a 2010 Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School.
The acceptance letter affirmed FPCG as an organization with a demonstrated record of responding to the needs of children and their families in their communities.
While this selection is great news, you might not have a clue what Freedom School is and how this designation affects First Church and its summer program. Throughout the coming months the Mission and Outreach Committee will keep you informed of our progress as we launch this new and exciting program.
On Friday, Feb 12th at 6:30pm an information meeting will be held. Anyone interested in Freedom School and opportunities to be involved should attend.
Also invited are 2009 camp parents. Join us and you too can get excited about Freedom School!

What a wonderful day of service we had on Monday, January 18.
See photos from the day here!
About sixty people came to The First Presbyterian Church in Germantown to perform a variety of jobs.
There was a crew, mostly of Property Committee members, down near the Youth Lounge and Gym repairing a wall that had major water damage. Others spent time working in the Youth Lounge.
Madeline Valentine led a group of women in the kitchen who inventoried the china in the kitchen as well as cleaned the cupboards and counters.
The Worship and Music Committee and others were in the sanctuary dusting, washing and polishing. The Christian Education Committee were up in the classrooms and also in the nursery washing toys and sorting clothes.
Eileen Jones had many join her in the Crisis Ministry area.

The Christian Fellowship Bible Study Class, a long standing FPCG institution on Sunday mornings, held its last class last month.
Ably led by Don Carlin for nearly a decade, the class was a reliable source of quality Bible teaching, thoughtful discussion on how to apply Christian principles in daily living, and meaningful fellowship and prayer support. The class was also a strong supporter of worldwide mission.
Generations of FPCG members and friends have been grateful for the spiritual nurture the class provided so that they, in turn, would be better equipped for Christian service to others.

Look at this picture and what do you see?
What is it that catches your attention? Is it the word “Stewardship?” Yes, it is that time of year again.
Now look beyond the word “Stewardship” at the picture. What do you see? Do your eyes draw you to the brick wall or to a cross?
For many people it is the brick wall that they see when it comes to stewardship. That wall stops them from thinking beyond their wallets. They don’t want to listen to God’s call for us to be generous Christian stewards. The brick wall prevents them from participating in the ministry of the church.
I hope you are one whose eyes and heart focus on the cross of this picture. If so, then you understand that stewardship is how we honor God and demonstrate our faith.
It is through our giving that the church is able to respond to the physical and spiritual needs of us and of others outside of our church.
It is because of the generous giving of members and friends that the Good News story of the Gospel (of which the cross is the symbol) can be proclaimed through the ministry and mission of The First Presbyterian Church in Germantown.

Technology has given us so many new ways to communicate with each other.
While nothing can replace the joy of in-person communication, we have created a First Pres Facebook Group to stay in touch through out the week.... and to keep in touch with our members and friends who have moved away from the area.
Don’t know about Facebook? No worries, talk to Drew Hood, Chris Scott, or Sheila Heyer-Rivera to learn more about it.
Once you set up a profile, you can join our group: First Pres Germantown.
See you in cyberspace!
