Technology has given us so many new ways to communicate with each other.
While nothing can replace the joy of in-person communication, we have created a First Pres Facebook Group to stay in touch through out the week.... and to keep in touch with our members and friends who have moved away from the area.
Don’t know about Facebook? No worries, talk to Drew Hood, Chris Scott, or Sheila Heyer-Rivera to learn more about it.
Once you set up a profile, you can join our group: First Pres Germantown.
See you in cyberspace!

This past summer our church building became the home for the youth group of The First Christian Church of Birmingham, Alabama!
For the past five years, we have hosted youth groups, such as First Christian Church, who travel to Philadelphia to spend a week learning about urban ministry through the PUMI (Philadelphia Urban Ministry Institute) Experience.
The PUMI Experience is an experiential learning program that shares with young people the value of cities, as well as the importance of becoming students of the context in which they minister.
We do this through meetings with local community leaders, neighborhood tours, and through service opportunities and reflections with a variety of partner ministries in Germantown.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
FPCG has some new opportunities for the littlest ones among us… and their parents, too!
New Crib Room:
We are happy to announce that next month we will be expanding our nursery to include an adjacent crib room!
This will be a safe and quiet space for infants, nursing mothers, and children that are not quite old enough to run around in the pre-school nursery.
Baby Goods Exchange:
Did you know that The First Presbyterian Church has baby clothes, toys, and paraphernalia available for members who need or want to use them? All that is asked is that you clean and return the baby gear when you are done, and add a few baby items to those items you return.
We currently have cloths for all stages of development for babies and toddlers, primarily for boys. We are looking for cloths and baby gear for all stages for girls.
If you know anyone looking to unload some clean baby and toddler cloths and toys, or if you want to utilize the materials we do have, contact

On Monday August 17 everything seemed normal as I approached the front of the church. I pulled into the parking lot and noticed immediately that four cars were missing. Entering the building, there was no flip chart stating instructions and highlights for the week. When I crossed the threshold into the Longstreth Auditorium I was greeted by the sound of silence.
The energy and vitality that accompanied children, and which greeted anyone entering the building the past seven weeks, was gone. Left was an empty room and the fresh smell of Murphy’s oil soap. Immediately, I thought of Jesus saying “suffer the little children and forbid them not to come to me”. Missing in that space was the presence, energy and contagious enthusiasm of children that is a witness to us all. What if we didn’t operate a camp program?
With this thought in mind, suddenly my heart was filled with a sense of pride and gratitude for the members and leaders of First Church who each year support the camp program that provides an opportunity for children to come to Christ, and to grow in faith and community.

I want to thank FPCG for hosting the semi-annual memorial services for the VNA Hospice of Philadelphia for the past several years.
Our church was graciously hosting these services even before I began working for Hospice four years ago.
Every six months, these services have brought a very wide variety of people from all over the Philadelphia region into our church building. I hear comment after comment about the beauty of our sanctuary, the beauty of the Longstreth Auditorium and the Jennings Room and the wonderful hospitality of our sextons.
Especially I hear about how active our church seems to be in outreach to the larger community. Many attendees take advantage of the free literature on our tables. I have heard people say, “This is what church should be like...not just open on Sundays”.
Thank you FPCG, for your ministry of hospitality to the larger community.
