Mary Smith is in the unique position of being both a somewhat recent member as well as a longtime member of First Church.
Her original uniting with the congregation was in 1994. However, after retiring, Mary left Philadelphia for 4 years when she moved back to her hometown of Windsor North Carolina, where her son lives.
Mary worshiped at the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville where she made good friends and involved herself in church work and fund raising for local and world charities. In 2008 she moved back to the excitement and cultural life of our city and rejoined our membership in 2009.

Tell us how YOUR life is impacting others
Fifty days after Easter on Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended upon Christ’s followers and the Church was born as they spread the gospel!
In celebration here at FPCG, in the weeks following Pentecost this year, we want to highlight the ways the gospel is being spread through our members in their lives outside of the church.
If you would be interested in giving a 30 minute presentation about your sense of vocation whether it be through your job or a volunteer or service activity in which you’re involved, please contact Rev. Kevin Porter at 215-843-8811.

One of the joys of Christian service is the realization that the more we feed, the more we are fed.
This was especially true when Heidi Mercado Littles, Ann Reisse and the Reverend Kevin Porter made a pastoral visit to Caroline Klein.
Ms. Klein is a longtime FPCG member who has been living in a nursing facility in Yardley. As someone used to giving to others, it has been a challenge for her to be receiving so much care.
However, she shared how she had transformed her walks around the facility from a means of therapy for her to a ministry for others. Every day, she sits several of her singing teddy bears in her wheelchair. Together, they make the rounds, visiting bed bound residents and bringing cheer to their day.
Kevin, Ann and Heidi went with the intention of supporting her as she adjusts to her living situation by bringing her communion. They left inspired by her spirit.
Next time you are in church, look for a picture of Ms. Klein and her bears on the bulletin board outside the Finney Room. May it inspire us all in the midst of our trials to look for how our situation can be used by God to bear Christ’s witness to others.

Learn about the leadership of our church
This month we would like to highlight the important work of the Administration & Finance Committee.
These church leaders help support the vital ministry of our church.
Did you know the Admin & Finance Committee:
- oversees the finances of the church for both operations & capital needs
- works with other bodies of the church to help raise funds
- reviews and makes recommendations on the church’s financial matters
Our committee meetings are generally held on the 3rd Thursday of the month - please feel free to attend!
If you can’t be there in person, we invite you to review the minutes from the meetings. These notes, as well as other committee and Session minutes, include a summery of the year-to-date income and expenses, as well as endowment funds balance and the prior year value. You can find this information posted on the bulletin board near the Finney Room.
Additionally, we publish the prior month’s income, expenses, and mission grants in our Windows newsletter.
Quarterly seminars on church finances are now being held for any one interested. The first seminar was in February; the next one is scheduled for May 16th at 11:30am. We hope to see you there!
