What Are We Called To Do?
Then the LORD answered me and said: Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so that a runner may read it.
- Habakkuk 2:2
This spring, the Session met with a consultant to renew our church mission/ vision statement and set a strategic plan for our immediate future as The First Presbyterian Church in German-town. Elders worked together Friday night and Saturday morning and began sharing their dreams for our church.
As we look ahead, together with members of our many church committees and others, elders will be setting goals and objectives for the next 1-5 years. This can be an exciting time but one of anxiety as well as there will probably be changes in how we do ministry and mission.
Over our 201 years of existence, The First Presbyterian Church in Germantown has been faithful in its ministry and mission both within our congregation and beyond to our community. It is necessary every so often to review what is being done, evaluate its effectiveness, discover new possibilities for ministry and ways of doing ministry, and then to discern God’s will for if and how that ministry can and should be done.It is very important that YOU be part of this process!
One way that will happen is at a congregational brunch in the fall. You can begin to prepare for that time by reflecting on your answers to three questions:
- What brought you to The First Presbyterian Church in Germantown?
- What keeps you at The First Presbyterian Church in Germantown?
- Where is God calling us next as a congregation?
If you would like to respond to these questions before our fall brunch, you can do so by giving your answers to me () or sending them to my attention to the church.
In addition to sharing your thoughts about what ministry and mission should be happening in the next few years, it is also critical that you consider your role in making it happen. The questions are:
- What is God calling The First Presbyterian Church in Germantown to be and do in the next few years?
- What is God calling me to do within the church to ensure that God’s will is done?
It is a joy and a privilege to be part of the church community. How exciting it is to see the many ways our church is touching and transforming the lives of people of all ages, hopefully including your own.
Together we need to join hands as we, members and friends of The First Presbyterian Church in Germantown, continue the great tradition of faithful and vital ministry, sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
See you in church!
