Freedom School
Do you want to do something to help our children succeed?
Are you concerned about the state of public education?
Here is your opportunity to be an advocate and change agent in the lives of children and families this summer. Support this second year of Creative Germantown Initiative’s Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) Freedom School® Program operating June 27 through August 12, 2011.
Freedom School is a child centered program that focuses on children’s ability to make a difference. A Freedom School key component is fostering in children a love for reading. Read More

During the seven week program participants will engage with more than 50 high quality books. Trained college students will function as Servant Leader Interns who will implement the Integrated Reading Curriculum—a daily two hour session of reading and hands on activities enhance comprehension and stimulate critical thinking. Afternoon activities include swimming, crafts, and field trips. Additionally, weekly parent education workshops offer information on child development and other topics of interest.
As a CDF sanctioned program we are responsible for raising the bulk of funds needed to operate the program. This translates to approximately $1,500 per child. Freedom School was a life changing experience for many of the families last year. Your generous program support through the May Challenge offering can help make this summer’s Freedom School Program an even greater success!
