An Extra-Ordinary Time
This is the season when we welcome in summer and it is also the time when, in the church, we welcome the season of Ordinary Time.
Ordinary Time is ordinary as it is not part of our special liturgical seasons which lead up to our Holy Days of Christmas and Easter. When we think of what happens ordinarily in the church we should be focusing on those things which will renew and grow our ministry and mission together. Ordinary things can sometime seem so mundane that we ignore them and thus stifle growth and renewal.
During this season of Ordinary Time let each of us pay attention to some ordinary ways we might participate in strengthening our church life.
One way we build up the Body of Christ is through our care for one another. If you know of a concern regarding one of our church members or friends (or your own), please let us know. Did you know that there is a list of persons for whom we are all asked to remember in our prayers? This list is updated weekly and can be found on the literature table outside of the west transcept of the sanctuary. You can call the church office or our , with concerns.
Joys that we experience in our lives also need to be shared with the church. For example, if a new baby has been born into your family, let us know and a rose will be placed on the communion table at the next Sunday's worship service. If someone in your family is graduating from a school, please call our , so that the student can be recognized by the church.
Especially, during these difficult economic times you and others in our church family may be facing financial difficulties.
and also the Director of the Germantown Avenue Crisis Ministry. Please let her know if you or someone in our church family is in crisis or needs food. Know that your requests are in confidence.
An ordinary thing that we can all do is to keep contact with one another. If you notice that someone has not been in church lately, call that person and see how they are. Be sure to pick up a prayer list from the literature table on Sunday mornings and pray for those of our church family. When we are in church on Sundays, let us warmly greet one another. Study your church pictorial directory and become familiar with our brothers and sisters in Christ.
These are just a few of the ordinary things we can be doing to strengthen the body of Christ . . . the Church.
See you in church!
