CDF Freedom School Comes to Germantown
The Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) Freedom School is a child centered program that focuses on children’s ability to make a difference. It motivates children to excel, strengthens children’s feelings of self worth and lets children know that they are loved and valued by caring adults and it is coming to Germantown.
Replacing the 20+ years of Summer Day Camp, we are proud to launch this new program that will operate seven weeks June 28 through August 13, 2010!
Our summer program will enable participants to experience over eighty hours of focused activities around reading and comprehension and collect six books for their personal library.

In addition to reading activities, spiritual, cultural and recreational activities will be incorporated into the afternoon program and will provide children rich experiences and new opportunities for development and learning. This program provides all the Bible study and fun of camp and educational enrichment!

We need your financial support to launch Freedom School in this inaugural year.
The cost per child is $1,500, a minimal investment to enable a child to gain skills to fulfill his or her potential. Would you kindly consider giving to the Freedom School during this month's challenge offering?

The CDF Freedom School Model
At CDF Freedom Schools, children are valued, celebrated, and given opportunities to learn the pleasure of reading and improve their ability to read, while connecting to their culture, developing self discipline, having fun, and participating in community service and social action. CDF Freedom Schools are nurturing environments that promote children's strengths and abilities, and are not remedial nor oriented around a child deficit model.
