60 years at FPCG…and going strong!
Meet Nancy Smith and Winnie Fahs. If you don’t already know them, you are missing out!
On nearly every Sunday morning, these two members, who have been affiliated with the church for 60 years, often sit in the same pew on the west side of the sanctuary. Both joined First Church in 1950, and both were interviewed some time ago by Elizabeth Cameron and Marlene Young.

Nancy Smith "I came to First church as a babe in my mother's arms. My grandparents, the Bickels, as well as my aunt also attended. As I child I attended Sunday School here until age 12. We always had homework but still had fun.
As an adult I served as a Deacon, taught nursery school, worked in the church library. I also taught Bible School and swimming to day camp children.
I have appreciated all the pastors we have had. A sermon given by Dr. Finney is memorable. He asked, 'What do you think heaven will be like?'"
Winnie Fahs "Roy [her husband] and I joined First Church in May of 1950. I also joined the M. Frances David class the same year. Ms. David had a good lesson each Sunday which I enjoyed. George Peters was the minister at that time.
For many years I was a Deacon. I enjoyed meeting with other Deacons and learning if there was something in the church that we Deacons could take care of. One important mission at Christmas was to make food baskets for many needy families. As a result some folks could have a good meal at that special time of year. The adult group met for many years at members' homes where there was good conversation and great food. I was sorry to see that disband.
My hope for the church is that the music programs will continue. The concert series is such a wonderful drawing card for the church. May they continue better than ever."
