David C. Daugherty

It is with pleasure and anticipation that David C. Daugherty is introduced to the congregation as its new Director of Music. David is a native Pennsylvanian and has served churches in Western Pennsylvania and Delaware. He was educated at Youngstown (OH) State University and Carnegie-Mellon University. In addition to this formal music education, David has participated in numerous master classes and workshops devoted to organ, hand bells and voice. David also includes among his professional experience musical theater and opera, having performed as well as conducted in both areas. His experience includes conducting major choral works of many composers, including Leonard Bernstein, Joseph Haydn, Gabriel Faure, George Frederick Handel and others. In his presentation to the Director of Music Search Committee, David shared the following statement regarding church musicianship:

“I believe that the following points are essential to be an effective church musician: You must be pastoral in nature, caring for the people in the church and the community. You also need to be a teacher educating and inspiring others in the music ministry as well as people in the pews. Finally an effective church musician needs to be a performer who, after years of hard work, has the knowledge and skills to create a vocal and instrumental program capable of bringing the congregation of worshipers closer to God.”
